Santa Paula, CA (June 24, 2021) – On Wednesday, 18-year-old Robert Perez of Santa Paula died in a pedestrian accident on West Telegraph Road.
 
Officers received the crash report at 3:37 a.m. in the 15000 block area.
 
Apparently, Perez was lying in the roadway when he was struck by a vehicle.
 
Responders rushed him to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
 
Meanwhile, the involved driver stayed at the scene. Similarly, the driver agreed to be tested for alcohol and drugs to be ruled out for impairment.
 
A preliminary investigation found that Perez’s blood alcohol level was more than three times the legal limit of 0.08%.

Santa Paula High Graduate Dies in Crash

 
Santa Paula Police Chief Travis Walker confirmed that Perez was a 2021 graduate of the high school where he played Cardinal football.
 
In fact, the Santa Paula High School football team posted condolences on its Twitter page following the news of his death.
 
“We will always remember your personality and smile. We have dedicated the 2021 season to you RP. Once a Cardinal always a Cardinal! The entire Cardinal football family is heartbroken,” the team said on Twitter.
 
Also, Elizabeth Garcia, Santa Paula High principal considered the incident a “heartbreaking tragedy” and remembered Perez as a kid who was loved by all.
 
“This is a heartbreaking tragedy and a shock to our Santa Paula community. Our hearts go out to Robert’s family and friends. He was a great kid and a beautiful person. He was loved by all, especially his teammates and coaches,” Garcia said in a statement.
 
Accordingly, Perez’s family created a gofundme account with a $13,000 goal to help pay for funeral and medical expenses.
 
Additionally, his family also organized a fundraiser Saturday at 131 Warren Avenue in Santa Paula. Food will be sold starting at noon and donations were also being accepted.
