Robert Franklin Hospitalized after Redding Auto Crash on Riverland Drive
REDDING, CA (June 9, 2020) – Saturday night, Robert Franklin sustained two broken legs in a pedestrian accident on Riverland Drive.
The pedestrian accident happened at about 10:00 p.m. on Riverland Drive, south of Redding.
31-year-old Robert Franklin of Shasta Lake was walking north on the two-lane road. However, he stopped and crouched in the traffic lane to tie his shoelaces. As he knelt, a 29-year-old Redding woman driving a northbound car hit Robert Franklin.
Meanwhile, CHP spokesman Jason Morton maintains that the driver was not at fault. First, she didn’t exceed the 35-mph speed limit. Second, she was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Furthermore, reports revealed that she was uninjured in the crash and remained at the scene.
Riverland Drive is located on the west side of the 5 Freeway. It provides access to mobile home parks along the Sacramento River. Reports stated that there’s no sidewalk and has a very narrow shoulder.
The thought of an accident can leave us all in a panic. If you’re ever involved in one, do your best to remain calm. Avoid the trouble and wait for authorities to arrive and tend to those injured.
Preventing Pedestrian Accidents
As roadways continue to clear and walking outside has increased in commonality, pedestrian accident statistics are soaring.
However, you can avoid being involved in an accident by avoiding dangerous habits. Also, making sure to always walk on the sidewalk (no jaywalking) and make eye contact with drivers. Furthermore, never assume the driver can see you.
If you’re a driver, know that pedestrians have the right of way at any crosswalk or intersection. You must yield and be prepared to stop.
“Pedestrian accidents do not occur as much as motor vehicle accidents, but the pedestrian accidents tend to include more serious injuries,” says Tyler Toomey, a practicing attorney at Sweet Lawyers.
