Two Arrested after High-Speed Chase Ends in Crash near Sunset Boulevard

LOS ANGELES, CA (November 27, 2018) – Two people were arrested Tuesday afternoon following a police chase crash on Echo Park Avenue. The identities of the suspects were not immediately disclosed to the public.

An armed robbery at an auto parts shop was reported in the 800 block of North Avenue 50, at about 3:30 PM. The suspects then fled the scene in an SUV and drove at high speeds on surface streets and on multiple freeways, including the 210 Freeway, 2 Freeway, and 101 Freeway.

The vehicle ran multiple red lights and narrowly missed other vehicles, pedestrians, and bicyclists. Authorities also reported that the fleeing suspects were seen throwing undetermined items out of the vehicle.

Shortly before 5:00 PM, the suspect vehicle crashed into a bus shelter near Sunset Boulevard. The driver and a passenger exited the wrecked SUV and attempted to flee the area on foot. Police were able to immediately track down the suspects and both were taken into custody.

An investigation is ongoing to determine the events that led to the crash and to identify other possible contributing factors. Additional information will be released once it becomes available.
