Richard Chambers Detained and 1 Injured in El Cajon Motorcycle Accident

 
EL CAJON, CA (July 1, 2019) – A CHP motorcycle officer suffered serious injuries in a collision on 8 Freeway on June 27.
 
The incident occurred at about 9:40 p.m. on westbound 8 Freeway. In addition, police stated the accident happened east of Main Street in El Cajon, CHP Officer Travis Garrow said.
 
According to reports, two CHP officers responded in the center divider of westbound 8 Freeway aiding a disabled vehicle moments before the collision.
 
The officer parked the CHP patrol car behind the disabled vehicle. In addition, the officer activated the rear emergency lights with directional arrows to alert drivers.
 
After that, the officer pulled away from the disabled vehicle. He then rode from the center divide to the left lane, also known as the fast lane. That is when a white Chevy Camaro hit the officer. In addition, Garrow revealed that the speeding car side-swiped officer while he merged from the median to the fast lane.
 
After the crash, the officer still rode his bike back onto the shoulder before heading to Sharp Memorial Hospital.
 
Authorities identified the Camaro driver as 25-year-old Richard Chambers from El Cajon. Upon his exit from the freeway at West Main Street, officers contacted him. As a result, police arrested him on suspicion of DUI.
 
According to reports, a 41-year-old woman also occupied the Camaro. However, she and Chambers didn’t suffer injury.
