2 Injured in Menlo Park Multi-Vehicle Accident on Highway 101

MENLO PARK, CA (August 13, 2019) – Two people sustained serious injuries in a multi-vehicle accident on Highway 101 on August 11.

According to CHP Officer Art Moniel, they arrested Ricardo Hernandez and Maria Guzman for driving under the influence.

Authorities received reports of the accident around 2:35 a.m. on northbound Highway 101 north of Marsh Road. A gray 2006 Honda Civic occupied by four people lost control, steered left into water-filled attenuators within the center divide. After that, the vehicle overturned on the highway. As a result, it stopped in the northbound lanes.

After the occupants went out of the crashed vehicle, a white 2018 BMW struck the Honda.

Meanwhile, a white Honda Civic stopped to avoid a collision with the first two cars. However, a black Jeep rear-ended it on the right side. The Honda then drove away, exited at Woodside Road and waited for the officers. After that, a red Dodge Dart struck the Jeep.

Authorities suspected the male driver of the gray Honda Civic, 20-year-old Ricardo Hernandez of Redwood City, and the female black Jeep driver, 18-year-old Guzman of East Palo of driving under the influence. Responders took them to San Mateo County Medical Center. After that, authorities detained and booked them to San Mateo County Jail.

Two passengers from the gray Honda suffered serious injuries and went to Stanford Hospital. The 19-year-old female resident of San Jose sustained major injuries. However, the 21-year-old male Redwood City resident suffered less severe head and leg injuries.
