Driver Fixing Tire Chains Seriously Injured in Highway 50 Crash Near Twin Bridges
Twin Bridges, CA (February 8, 2025) – A 54-year-old man suffered major injuries after a horrific traffic crash on Highway 50 Friday morning.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the shocking incident happened around 10 a.m. on a shoulder along a curve east of Twin Bridges.
Reports say that a speeding teenage driver struck and seriously injured the man who was fixing tire chains on his vehicle along Highway 50 near Twin Bridges.
Authorities say that the 54-year-old man had pulled his Nissan onto the shoulder, while his wife and three children remained inside the vehicle while he worked on the left rear tire.
Meanwhile, an 18-year-old driver lost control of his Subaru while traveling between 45 and 55 mph in slushy conditions—despite a posted 25 mph speed limit with chain controls in effect.
Moreover, the Subaru slid into the Nissan, pinning the man between both vehicles and sending him airborne. The impact also pushed the Nissan into the guardrail.
Emergency responders transported the man to the hospital with major injuries. His wife and 10-year-old son sustained minor injuries and were also hospitalized. The Subaru carried two teenage passengers, but no additional injuries were reported.
Authorities confirmed that everyone involved remained at the crash scene and waited for emergency crews. Officials did not issue any arrests or citations. The crash temporarily shut down eastbound Highway 50 near Twin Bridges for about an hour.
