Perris, CA (UPDATE) – On Monday morning, Rafael Duarte, 68, and Maria Navarro, 69, died in a two-vehicle crash that sparked a fire at Harley Knox Boulevard and Patterson Avenue’s intersection.
 
The collision happened at about 11:45 a.m. on July 13. According to reports, two vehicles total were involved in the crash.
 
Details of how the accident exactly happened are still unclear, but witnesses say one of the cars impacted at high speed.
 
Later reports stated that the collision involved a Chevy Blazer and the victims’ Ford F-150 pickup.
 
The driver of the Blazer fled the scene; however, authorities found him close by and arrested them on suspicion of driving under the influence.
 
Firefighters then responded and found one person dead, and another occupant of the vehicle trapped, and flames sprouting from the engine block.
 
They extricated the trapped victim but pronounced them dead at the scene 10 minutes later.
 
Moreover, witnesses said an occupant of one of the vehicles fled after the crash, but that could not be immediately confirmed. Further investigation is ongoing.
