1 Killed in Vancouver Pedestrian Accident on 139th Street

VANCOUVER, WA (June 16, 2020) – Saturday night, Rachel Casper died in a pedestrian crash on 139th Street.

According to the Clark County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred around 7:30 p.m. After receiving the report, deputies and emergency responders responded to the 8300 block of Northeast 139th Street for an auto-pedestrian accident.

The 911 caller revealed that a vehicle hit her daughter.

Upon the first responders’ arrival, they located 28-year-old Rachel Casper down in the front yard of her home. Unfortunately, despite the life-saving efforts, Casper succumbed to her injuries at the scene.

The witnesses revealed that the vehicle hit Rachel Casper while she and her father prepared to walk to a neighbor’s house.

According to the deputies, 25-year-old Allister Gollihugh of Keizer traveled east in a Chevrolet Suburban on Northeast 139th Street. However, the car went off the road and struck a power pole.

After hitting the power pole, the SUV then hit Casper in the driveway of her home before the vehicle crashed into a large tree.

Meanwhile, Gollihugh reportedly remained at the scene. He has been cooperative with investigators and police later released him.

Furthermore, Gollihugh had no signs of obvious impairment. He didn’t receive a citation or any charges.

Moreover, Gollihugh and Casper’s father didn’t suffer any injury.

The sheriff’s office handles the crash investigation.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved family and friends of Rachel Casper.

The Increase of Deadly Pedestrian Accidents in the US

In 2017 there were 5,977 pedestrians killed in traffic crashes in the United States.

On average, a pedestrian was killed every 88 minutes in traffic crashes. That is more than 16 people a day, almost 115 people a week.

While car accidents are far more common than pedestrian accidents, there is still reason to be wary when traveling on foot.

“Pedestrian accidents do not occur as much as motor vehicle accidents. But the pedestrian accidents tend to include more serious injuries,” says Tyler Toomey, a practicing attorney at Sweet Lawyers.
