CHP Investigates Fatal Two-Vehicle Crash on Interstate 280 in San Jose

San Jose, CA (May 9, 2025) -A tragic crash on Interstate 280 in San Jose claimed the life of a pregnant mother Thursday night when she was ejected from her vehicle during a two-car collision, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Two young children, who were also in the car, survived the incident.

CHP officers responded at approximately 7:34 p.m. to reports of a collision involving a Honda Civic and a Ford pickup truck on the southbound side of I-280, just north of Bird Avenue.

When officers arrived, they found a 25-year-old San Jose woman unresponsive after being ejected from the Honda. Emergency responders immediately administered CPR before transporting her to Valley Medical Center.

At the hospital, medical staff informed authorities that the woman was pregnant. Sadly, both she and her unborn child died from their injuries, CHP confirmed.

Officers discovered two children inside the Honda, estimated to be between 2–3 and 5–6 years old. Fortunately, neither child appeared to be injured in the crash, officials reported.

Investigators determined that the Honda had crossed multiple lanes of traffic before colliding with the Ford pickup. The driver and passenger in the Ford were not injured.

Authorities closed three lanes of I-280 for approximately two hours to investigate the crash.
