1 Hurt in Santa Barbara Crash on Alamar Avenue

SANTA BARBARA, CA (July 3, 2020) – Early Thursday afternoon, an officer sustained injuries in a motorcycle accident on Alamar Avenue.

The incident occurred about 12:50 p.m. on Alamar Avenue and Foothill Road. According to reports, a sedan struck the Santa Barbara police officer riding a motorcycle.

Afterward, responders transported the officer to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital with moderate injuries.

Further reports from the police revealed that the white sedan driver turned left directly in front of the officer. The officer traveled at a speed of 30-35 mph down Foothill Road.

Moreover, the force of the crash threw off the officer from his bike and landed on the road next to the driver’s side door.

Meanwhile, the sedan driver said that she thought that she had the enough time to safely turn in front of the officer. According to reports, the female driver in her 20s drove with a learner’s permit. An adult male observed her driving in the passenger seat.

The authorities confirmed that the sedan occupants were uninjured.

The Risks of Riding a Motorcycle

Motorcycle accidents are prone to be severe because riders lack stability cars normally offer. Moreover, a motorcyclist is more vulnerable to road hazards, weather conditions, and is less visible to other drivers.

Always be alert and focused on the road. Do not use smartphones or other unnecessary devices. Most especially, abide by posted speed limits while on busy boulevards.

If you see yourself unfit to drive in a moment, use a rideshare app instead.

According to the Association of Safe International Road Travel, more than half of all road occur among vulnerable road users—pedestrians, cyclists, and motorcyclists.

Thus, it is valuable to know what to do if you get involved in a motor vehicle accident
