SAN MARCOS, CA (January 24, 2021) – Saturday, a police officer suffered injuries in an accident on State Route 78 and Twin Oaks Valley Road.
 
The incident occurred around noon when a 40-year-old Vista woman traveled in a 2015 Chevrolet 2500 pickup. She headed west on State Route 78, east of Twin Oaks Valley Road, stated Juan Escobar of the California Highway Patrol.
 
According to reports, for reasons still unknown, the vehicle’s left rear wheel got detached. Then, it went into the center median into the eastbound lanes. Eventually, the tire hit the Escondido Police Department’s Ford Explorer Police Interceptor, Escobar added. As a result, the police vehicle’s roof and windshield were damaged.
 
Then, the wheel continued until it hit a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado that was driving behind the police vehicle.
 
At this time, the authorities haven’t disclosed the condition of the 22-year-old Silverado driver from Escondido.
 
On the other hand, the police officer sustained minor injuries.
 
Also, the CHP, Escondido Police Department, San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, and San Marcos Fire Department all came to the scene.
 
Due to limited information, the crash remains under active investigation.
