74-Year-Old British Columbia Man Dies after Struck by Truck near Victory Lane and Ginger Rogers Road
RANCHO MIRAGE, CA (April 2, 2018) – A bicyclist was struck and killed by a truck in the northbound lanes of Bob Hope Drive, on Monday morning.
The collision happened just after 10:00 AM on Bob Hope, between Victory Lane and Ginger Rogers Road. Riverside County Sheriff’s deputies arrived at the scene where they found 74-year-old Peter Harvey in the bicycle lane lying several feet from his bike.
Investigators revealed that a Chevrolet utility truck entered the bicycle lane for unknown reasons and struck Harvey. Severe damage was visible to the front of the truck, which was parked along the road near the victim.
The truck driver, whose name was not immediately released, stopped the vehicle after the crash and contacted authorities. He remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Authorities revealed that drugs or alcohol were not involved in the collision.
Bob Hope Drive was closed off between Ginger Rogers Rd and Victory Dr during the investigation.
