Suspected DUI Crash in Kansas City Under Investigation
Kansas City, MO (October 14, 2024) – People were injured following a 5-vehicle crash on Northeast Vivion Road Friday evening.
According to investigators, a black Audi S5 was speeding westbound. Just before it reached the North Indiana Avenue intersection, the Audi driver attempted to drive between two other westbound vehicles that were traveling at the correct speed limit.
The Audi driver clipped a blue Chrysler 200 and hit the left rear of a gray Subaru.
Then, the Audi also struck a white Ford Fusion, causing it to spin. As the Ford rotated, the vehicle struck a silver Jeep Laredo.
After hitting the Ford, the Audi shot across all the lanes of the road and struck a wooden utility pole.
Afterward, the Audi stopped on the south side of the roadway.
As a result, the Ford Fusion driver was taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The Jeep’s driver, front passenger, and left rear passenger, sustained minor injuries and declined medical treatment at the scene.
The Chrysler and Subaru drivers did not complain of any injuries and were released at the scene.
Similarly, the Audi driver was taken to an area hospital with serious injuries while the front passenger in the Audi was not hurt.
Officers are investigating the crash on Northeast Vivion Road and suspect impairment on the Audi driver.
Be a Responsible Driver
Always plan for a sober ride. Ensure you have a plan for a safe ride home. If you’re the designated driver, it’s crucial to take that responsibility seriously and never consume alcohol or drugs before getting behind the wheel.
Key Safety Tips to Remember:
- Never drink and drive.
- Don’t allow anyone who’s been drinking to drive.
- If you’re hosting a gathering, make sure everyone has a safe, sober way to get home.
- Call 911 if you spot a drunk driver on the road.
- Always wear your seatbelt. It’s your best defense in case of an accident.
Even a single drink can affect your ability to drive safely. Alcohol and drugs impair your coordination, judgment, and reaction time, putting you and others at serious risk. Impaired driving is a leading cause of accidents, injuries, and fatalities. By choosing not to drink and drive, you contribute to the safety of everyone on the road.
