Pedro Gil and Another Killed, Rodney Quiroz and Antonio Gazo Arrested in Modesto Pursuit Crash
MODESTO, CA (June 17, 2019) — Pedro Gil and another pedestrian died after a pursuit crash that ended in Modesto on Saturday, June 15.
According to the Modesto Police Department, officers found a stolen car near Briggsmore Avenue and Lakewood Avenue at around 1:45 a.m.
The vehicle fled after officers tried to stop it. One of the people inside the stolen vehicle started shooting at officers, police stated. Multiple agencies helped with the pursuit, which ended on Yosemite Boulevard at 14th Street and D Street.
The chase ended when the stolen vehicle collided into the carport of a food truck. Then it struck two pedestrians, according to the police. The pedestrians succumbed to their injuries at the scene.
Police identified the people in the vehicle as 24-year-old Rodney Quiroz and 22-year-old Antonio Gazo. They attempted to flee but officers brought them into custody immediately. Officers discovered two guns when they searched the stolen vehicle.
Authorities booked Quiroz and Gazo into the Stanislaus County Jail on homicide and attempted homicide charges.
There is an online fundraiser for one of the victims identified as Pedro Gil of Vernalis. He is a husband and father of four children ages 8 to 12.
