Man Killed by Carlsbad Amtrak Train on Carlsbad Village Drive

 
CARLSBAD, CA (May 30, 2019) – On Thursday morning, a pedestrian was struck and killed by an Amtrak train on Carlsbad Village Drive.
 
The victim was identified as a male who appeared to be 25 to 35 years old. However, no other information regarding his identification has been released.
 
According to the Carlsbad Police Department, the accident happened around 8:00 PM, near Tamarack Surf Beach.
 
Reports indicate the train engineer sounded his horn when the victim was walking on the railroad tracks. However, the victim walked into its path at the time of the accident.
 
The cause of the accident is currently unknown. In addition, no details on what happened prior to the pedestrian being struck were immediately available.
 
First responders declared the pedestrian dead on scene due to the impact.
 
Passengers were on board at the time of the collision. However no other injuries were reported.
 
The surrounding area was closed off for a brief time for a preliminary investigation, but has since reopened. The Amtrak schedule returned to normal service with some residual delays.
 
There has been no further information released to the public regarding the circumstances leading up to the incident at this time.
