1 Dead in Laguna Hill Pedestrian Accident on 5 Freeway

LAGUNA HILLS, CA (May 20, 2020) – Early Tuesday morning, a pedestrian died in a crash involving a trailer on 5 Freeway.

According to the California Highway Patrol, just after midnight, the pedestrian who was walking lanes on 5 Freeway was hit by the tractor-trailer. The white International tractor-trailer was heading south on 5 Freeway.

The pedestrian was on the eastward lanes north of Alicia Parkway when the crash occurred, CHP Officer Rafael Reynoso revealed.

Furthermore, a caller reported that a pedestrian was running in lanes.

The Aftermath and Police Investigations

Reynoso added that the truck couldn’t avoid the pedestrian in time. Thus, the crash occurred and resulted in fatal injuries.

When the Orange County Fire Authority arrived at the scene, they pronounced the pedestrian dead at the scene.

Moreover, the 51-year-old male driver of the tractor-trailer didn’t sustain any injury. He’s reportedly being cooperative with the police investigation.

At this time, the police officers weren’t able to determine why the pedestrian was on the road. They are also looking into the possibility of drugs or alcohol being involved in the fatal accident.

As the officials continue to look for more leads, they are encouraging witnesses or anyone with information to contact the CHP Capistrano area-office. For tipsters, they can contact 949-487-4000 or the CHP 24-hour non-emergency line at 949-784-6700.
