Fatal Early Morning Pedestrian Crash on 15 Freeway in San Diego
SAN DIEGO, CA (July 12, 2019) – A pedestrian was fatally struck by several vehicles Friday morning on 15 Freeway, near West Bernardo Drive.
The accident happened around 4:00 a.m., on the northbound lanes of the 15 Freeway near West Bernardo Drive. CHP officials first received reports from drivers who believed they hit a deer on the roadway.
Authorities found the man, possibly in his 40s, who appeared to have been struck more than once. The male victim was later pronounced dead on scene as a result of the impact. However, he was not identified.
Furthermore, the incident prompted a traffic stoppage on the northbound lanes and a SigAlert was eventually issued. Traffic was also diverted at West Bernardo Drive/Pomerado Road for a brief time. All affected lanes were eventually reopened by 9:00 a.m.
The circumstances leading up to the crash are still currently under investigation.
