Car Hits Man and Crashes Into Building Near Opp Street

WILMINGTON, CA (December 28, 2019) – A pedestrian was injured in a parking lot accident in the 1000 block of Avalon Boulevard on Saturday evening.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened near Opp Street at approximately 10:20 PM.

Reports from the Los Angeles Fire Department showed that a 60-year-old woman drove an older Lexus as she attempted to park her car between lines in a parking space. However, she accidentally hit the gas pedal instead of the brake pedal. As a result, she struck a pedestrian and drove into a commercial building.

The man was knocked through a plate glass window. As a result, the victim suffered small lacerations from the glass window and complained of pain. The driver was not injured.

An initial investigation showed that the driver was not impaired by drugs or alcohol at the time of the crash. However, the cause is under investigation.

A crash can happen anytime and anywhere, even in parking lots. One small driving mistake can lead to disastrous results. As a result, it is important to drive defensively and always abide by all driving laws.
