Pedestrian Hospitalized after Auto Crash in Grand Avenue San Diego

San Diego, CA (May 17, 2020)– A 24-year-old pedestrian sustained severe injuries in an auto crash on Grand Avenue and Fanuel Street on Saturday.

The crash happened just before midnight on May 16. Dispatched officers arrived and located a 2020 Ford Fusion and the injured pedestrian on the scene.

Reportedly, the pedestrian struck by a 2020 Ford Fusion heading west along Grand Avenue on a green light. The victim darted across the intersection from the east sidewalk along Fanuel Street.

Emergency personnel transported the victim to an area hospital for immediate aide. He sustained injuries to his chest and multiple bone fractures and is now recovering.

Meanwhile, the 25-year-old man driving the Ford remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. Police confirmed alcohol or drugs are not a factor in the crash.

Pedestrian accidents are avoidable if people are aware and alert enough to follow simple safety measures. When jogging, running, or walking, one should remain beside the street or on the shoulder of the road. Furthermore, wait for the “walk” signal before crossing the intersections. Above all, avoid the use of smartphones and other electronic devices while walking.
