1 Hospitalized after Woodland Pedestrian Accident on Sixth Street
WOODLAND, CA (October 15, 2019) – A person suffered critical injuries in a pedestrian accident on Sixth Street on October 10.
Woodland Police Sgt. Dallas Hyde said that the crash occurred at 9:13 a.m.
“A Woodland community service officer advised dispatch of a vehicle versus a pedestrian traffic collision at the intersection of Sixth Street and Main Street,” the sergeant revealed. “The community service officer and another witness immediately rendered aid to the pedestrian who was struck while walking in the crosswalk.”
As the vehicle tried to turn right to travel south on Sixth Street, it crashed with the pedestrian who walked eastbound in the crosswalk. There are no lights or signs in the crossing.
An ambulance took the pedestrian to UC Davis Medical Center in critical condition. The identity of the victim remains unknown as of this time.
However, the driver remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation.
“The initial investigation appears to show that the vehicle was not traveling at an unsafe speed or over any speed limit as it was actually stopped initially for a pedestrian walking through the crosswalk on Main Street in front of the Courthouse and then made the right turn to head southbound on Sixth,” Hyde added.
“The cause of this incident is still under investigation. However, this tragic accident serves as a reminder for both pedestrians and drivers to watch out for each other at all times,” he stated.
