One Dead and Two Injured in Accident near Bean Hollow Road
PESCADERO, CA (May 5, 2018) – On Saturday evening, a suspected DUI crash on Highway 1 resulted in one casualty, two hospitalizations, and an arrest.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the deadly collision happened around 8:40 PM on Highway 1 near Bean Hollow Road in San Mateo County. A 1998 Ford Contour, driven by 21-year-old Paulino Najera of Pescadero, was heading north on the highway. At the same time, a 2008 Toyota 4Runner, driven by Jasmine Fernandez of Santa Cruz, was traveling southbound.
The Ford crossed into the southbound lanes, colliding head-on with Fernandez’s Toyota.
Najera and Fernandez both sustained major injuries and were airlifted to the Stanford University Medical Center for treatment and evaluation. The unidentified passenger in Najera’s vehicle, only described as a male, was declared to be dead at the scene of the crash.
Authorities arrested Najera after determining that he was driving under the influence when the collision happened. He will be facing felony DUI charges as well as vehicular manslaughter charges. No other information is available to the public at this time.
