Pauline Maxey and Paul Maxey Injured in Chelan Crash
Chelan, WA (September 17, 2021)– On Thursday, 85-year-old Pauline Maxey and 84-year-old Paul Maxey, both from Wenatchee, suffered injuries in a crash on Knapp’s Hill Tunnel.
The accident took place at about 12:40 pm. in the middle of the tunnel.
Officers said Paul Maxey was southbound in a 2000 Toyota Corolla when it crossed the center line and hit a northbound box truck, which also struck a southbound Chevy Traverse that blocked both lanes of US 97A.
“They had to wait for a (Department of Transportation) engineer because apparently, the box truck hit a girder, which is something that is really important in the tunnel.” an officer explained, “They just wanted to make sure it was still safe for folks to travel in the tunnel.”
Rescuers took Paul Maxey and his wife Pauline Maxey to Lake Chelan Community Hospital with unknown injuries.
No one else was hurt in the accident.
