Fiery Plane Crash at Corona Airport Kills Four

CORONA, CA (January 22, 2020) – Authorities have identified the four people killed in a plane crash Wednesday after noon at a Riverside County airfield.

The Riverside County coroner’s office named the victims as Paula Mitchell, 61, of La Mirada; Daniel Rodriguez, 70, of Whittier; Teresa Rodriguez, 63, of Whittier; and Joseph Zingali, 85, of Torrance.

The four were aboard a single-engine Beechcraft Bonanza that crashed and burned near one end of the runway at Corona Municipal Airport.

The plane was trying to depart Runway 7 at the non-towered airfield. It hit a fence after rising only a few feet from the runway surface. It then flipped over and quickly caught fire.

Witnesses said the pilot appeared unable to rotate the plane as he approached the runway edge.

A Corona Fire Department spokesman said that the Bonanza had been topped off with 80 gallons of gasoline, suggesting that with all four seats occupied, it may have been overloaded.

According to the FAA Registry, Zingali was the plane’s owner. But it was unknown who was at the controls.

The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board are investigating.

We share our deepest condolences to the loved ones and friends of Paula Mitchelle, Daniel Rodriguez, Teresa Rodriguez and Joseph Zingali.
