37-Year-Old Patrick Grady Apprehended After Crashing Into Police Officer’s Vehicle

Grass Valley, CA (October 9, 2020) – On Thursday, police arrested 37-year-old Patrick Grady after crashing head-on into a Grass Valley Police Department cruiser on Highway 49.

Apparently, Grady stole a vehicle from a Hansen Bros. yard off La Barr Meadows Road and struck the officer’s cruiser near West McKnight Way.

The police officer involved in the crash was shaken up, but did not sustain serious injuries in the crash, a California Highway Patrol officer said.

California Highway Patrol public information officer Mike Steele said they apprehended Grady in the Wolf Creek drainage after a four-hour manhunt which began with a traffic stop along McKnight Way at 12:16 PM.

Furthermore, they received reports about a stolen, lifted Ford full-size pickup that traveled from Alta Sierra to the McKnight Way Chevron.

“When our officers went to apprehend the suspect, he went to foot bail,” Steele said.

Immediately, officers set up a perimeter in the LaBarr Meadows Road area.

“He was able to evade us for about three hours out there,” Steele said. “At one point he went into the Hansen Brothers yard, stole a pickup, tried to flee the scene wrong way on the highway, and hit the patrol vehicle head-on.”

Grass Valley Police Lt. Joe Matteoni said the suspect’s vehicle was traveling north in the southbound lane when the wreck happened.

Police Arrest Grady

Moreover, the authorities took Grady into custody at 3:55 p.m., in Wolf Creek drainage off Allison Ranch Road. Then, they transported Grady to a Sutter Roseville Medical Center to be treated for his injuries.

Meanwhile, the unnamed injured officer went to Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital. The officer’s injuries didn’t appear severe.

Also, one of the foot pursuit officers incurred a minor injury.

The front end of the patrol car is totaled.

Practice safe driving habits on the road at all times… even when it is empty, even when there is no police officer around to make sure you make a full and complete stop.
