Passenger Hospitalized, Patrick Smith Arrested in Semi-Truck Crash on Highway 97

 
Orondo, WA (December 6, 2020) – On Friday, a 78-year-old Waterville woman was injured while 70-tear-old Patrick Smith of Waterville was arrested in a big rig crash on Highway 97.
 
The crash happened at about 10:41 A.M.
 
Washington State Patrol Trooper John Bryant said a Suburban driven by Smith pulled onto Highway 97 from the stop sign at Highway 2 and struck a northbound semi.
 
As a result, both vehicles sustained extensive damage and blocked both lanes of the highway.
 
Rescuers rushed Smith and his passenger, the Waterville woman to Central Washington Hospital. Bryant said their injuries were not serious.
 
Meanwhile, the semi driver, 55-year-old Jarnail Samra of Sacramento, California did not get injured.
 
Authorities arrested and cited Smith for failure to yield the right of way.
 
Despite having a detour in the crash area, the wreck caused traffic backups, Bryant said.
