1 Injured in San Luis Obispo Accident on Highway 46

SAN LUIS OBISPO, CA (May 18, 2020) – Early Wednesday morning, a passenger was airlifted after a semi-truck crash on Highway 46.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the involved vehicle was a semi tractor-trailer truck carrying food.

The police revealed that the single-vehicle rollover crash occurred at about 2:10 a.m. on Highway 46 at Antelope Road near Shandon. According to the agency, a driver and a passenger occupied the vehicle. When the driver fell asleep, he crossed the eastbound lane and fell onto its righthand side. The truck then landed on the south shoulder of the road.

The CHP added that the passenger unrestrained in the sleeper cab when the crash occurred. As a result, the passenger sustained major injuries and was airlifted to Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center in San Luis Obispo.

Meanwhile, the CHP believed that the cause of the collision was driver fatigue.

The collision didn’t lead to road closures Wednesday morning. However, the CHP officials confirmed that they may shut down the eastbound lane to remove the vehicle from the crash scene.

Whenever you are operating a vehicle, it is your responsibility to follow all traffic laws. Unforeseen events on the roadway happen all too often. By staying focused on the road and avoiding distractions, you can help to prevent dangerous rollover collisions such as these.
