Paramedics Respond to Semi-Truck Crash on Interstate 5 [Woodland, WA]

Woodland, WA (April 27, 2022) – On Tuesday afternoon, the paramedics responded to a semi-truck crash on Interstate 5.

Officers said they received the crash report at about 2 p.m. on the southbound freeway near milepost 23, wherein two big rigs were involved.

Investigators say heavy rains caused one car to hydroplane and it spun into another lane. As a result, the big rig in that lane slammed into it and it crashed into several other cars. 

Then, the same big rig swerved right into another big rig.

Unfortunately, one of the big rigs caught fire and burned the cab entirely while the other floated in the river. 

The firefighters did their best to get the flames under control.

Moreover, the Washington State Department of Ecology said that there’s a visible sheen on the Columbia River near the crash site.

Clark-Cowlitz Fire & Rescue says one of its fireboats worked to help contain the diesel fuel leaking into the river.

The officers added that the trailer that landed in the river was filled with metal shelving, while the other big rig was empty. They also said that this collision was a good example of how speeding and bad weather don’t mix.

Meanwhile, the emergency rescuers were able to recover the burned truck off the embankment. However, the officers said that the right lane on the southbound freeway would remain close as crews work in recovering the submerged truck.
