ORANGE, CA – Woman Killed in 2-Vehicle Crash on 5 Freeway near 22 Freeway

Pickup Truck Hits Flatbed Truck in Orange Killing 1 Passenger

 
ORANGE, CA (April 9, 2019) – A woman was killed following a two-vehicle crash Tuesday morning in Orange, CHP officials said.
 
The fatal crash happened around 8:26 a.m. on southbound 5 Freeway, just before the 22 Freeway connector road.
 
According to initial reports, the flatbed truck was slowing down in the carpool lane when a speeding black pickup truck rear-ended it, pushing it into the center divider wall. The pickup became lodged underneath the flatbed part of the trailer.
 
A female passenger in the pickup, whose identity has not yet been released, was pronounced dead at the scene.
 
The pickup truck’s driver suffered major injuries and was in critical condition. The driver of the flatbed sustained a big bump on his head.
 
The crash prompted a temporary closure of the carpool lane.
 
An ongoing investigation continues to determine the other factors involved and liability.
