Firefighters Hurt After Being Struck by Vehicle in Ontario

ONTARIO, CA (November 30, 2018) – Four firefighters responding to an earlier crash on the 15 Freeway near the 10 Freeway were injured after a vehicle spun out directly into them.

According to Mike Gerken of the Ontario Fire Department, the four firefighters were treating patients from an earlier crash on the northbound freeway when the incident happened.

The initial collision occurred around 9:30 a.m., according to a California Highway Patrol incident log, and 20 minutes later, CHP learned that a fire engine was struck, and firefighters were injured.

Two injured firefighters were treated at the scene while the other two sustained moderate injuries and were hospitalized.

At the scene were four sedans in the left-hand shoulder and No. 1 lanes. Per reports, one car was reportedly caved in and another vehicle’s bumper was dangling. It is unclear if any civilians were hurt.

Authorities are investigating this crash and are determining whether the strong rainstorm that traveled through Southern California Thursday played a role.

Always drive safely during inclement weather. When it’s raining, be mindful of your speed and keep a safe distance away from the car in front of you. Drivers often take advantage of the wet slick roads and can find themselves losing control or hydroplaning. Always remember to play it safe when the roads are wet or icy and the streets are foggy.
