Speeding Driver Dies after Crashing into Two Vehicles on Delta Road

OAKLEY, CA (October 12, 2019) – One person was killed and two others were injured following a three-vehicle crash late Saturday evening in unincorporated Contra Costa County.

The crash happened around 11:25 p.m. in the 200 block of Delta Road near Arminio Lane.

According to the CHP, a Ford pickup truck was traveling eastbound on Delta Road and preparing to make a left turn. Meanwhile, an Infiniti sedan was approaching the slower moving Ford at a high rate of speed.

The Infiniti drove into the westbound traffic lane in an attempt to pass the Ford. As the Ford began turning left, the Infiniti crashed into its left side and continued east on Delta. The Infiniti then crashed into a parked Dodge sedan on the north side of the roadway.

As a result, the driver of Infiniti died at the scene. He was only identified as a 22-year-old Byron man. He was not wearing a seat belt.

A passenger in the Infiniti, a 21-year-old Oakley woman, suffered moderate injuries. Paramedics airlifted her to John Muir Hospital in Walnut Creek for proper treatment.

Meanwhile, the male driver of the Ford only sustained minor injuries. A ground ambulance transported him to Kaiser Hospital in Antioch.

The crash remains under investigation.
