One Dead, One Hurt after Manteca Multi-Vehicle Crash on Highway 120
MANTECA, CA (June 28, 2019) — One person died and another sustained injuries in a multi-vehicle crash on Highway 120 on Thursday, June 27.
The multi-vehicle accident occurred just before 1 p.m. on Highway 120 just east of the Main Street overpass. It is a spot where traffic often backs up at the split that leads to the northbound and southbound Highway 99.
According to CHP Stockton Office spokesman Officer Charlie Katzakian, the initial reports said that there were five vehicles involved in the crash. Two main vehicles sustained damage namely a Hyundai Elantra and a box truck for Atlas Van Lines.
The Elantra moved on the left lane of the highway at an unknown speed. Then the driver crossed into the right lane and reached the stopped traffic, said Katzakian. The box truck was behind the Elantra and collided into the rear of the sedan. This caused the sedan to be pushed into the back of a stopped big rig.
The person who died, whose name was not immediately available, was the sole occupant of the Elantra.
According to Katzakian, paramedics transported one person to a hospital, but their condition was not immediately known. There were no reports of other injuries.
CHP shut down both eastbound lanes of Highway 120 during investigation and clearing operations.
