Driver Dies in Citrus Heights Crash on 80 Freeway

 
CITRUS HEIGHTS, CA (July 8, 2019) – One person died following a fiery crash on 80 Freeway Monday morning in Citrus Heights, authorities said.
 
CHP officials responded to the incident around 5:15 a.m., after receiving reports of debris and brush on fire along the right shoulder of eastbound 80 Freeway near Antelope Road.
 
Upon arrival, they located a Mercedes-Benz vehicle fully engulfed in flames. The unidentified driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene.
 
It was determined that the car skidded from the center lane of the freeway and crashed into nearby trees. It then caught fire a short time after the crash.
 
Multiple lanes were closed temporarily before 6:00 a.m., and the slow lane of traffic remained closed until after 8:00 a.m., according to CHP and Caltrans.
 
It is unknown what led up to the crash on 80 Freeway. CHP officials are still conducting their investigation.
