One Killed in 2-Vehicle Crash on 15 Freeway near Highway 138 [PHELAN, CA]

Fatal Crash Involving Semi Truck and Pickup at Cajon Pass

 
PHELAN, CA (May 30, 2019) – One person was killed following a 2-vehicle crash on 15 Freeway Thursday evening, near Highway 138.
 
The fatal collision happened around 7:53 p.m., on northbound 15 Freeway. Dispatchers arrived between Highway 138 and Oak Hill Road shortly after.
 
Reports indicate that a Turquoise-colored semi truck and a white Ford F-150 were involved. According to CHP logs, the Ford pickup struck the center divider before rear-ending the semi-truck.
 
San Bernardino County Fire Department and the California Highway Patrol located the driver of the Ford pinned inside the vehicle.
 
Firefighters were able to free the victim just before 8:30 p.m. However, despite life-saving measures, the sole occupant of the Ford was pronounced dead on scene.
 
Furthermore, the driver of the semi-truck suffered minor injuries due to the impact. There has been no update on their current condition at this time.
 
The first and second lanes of the freeway were closed for about about two hours, prompting officials to issue a traffic alert.
 
It is unknown if speed or intoxication was a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.
