Rider Hurt after Tahoe City Bicycle Accident on Highway 28

 
TAHOE CITY, CA (June 20, 2019) –  A rider sustained major injuries after a bicycle crash on Highway 28 at Old Mill Road on Tuesday, June 18.
 
The California Highway Patrol had reported on its incident website the bicyclist died but they retracted that.
 
The crash occurred at around 7:40 a.m. northeast of Tahoe City.  A 16-year-old driver of a Subaru struck the bicyclist with his vehicle.
 
Officers airlifted the cyclist to Renown Regional Medical Center for treatment of major injuries.
 
The driver stopped and called 911. He cooperated with investigators, who don’t believe the teen was under the influence of drugs. They said that the driver didn’t see the bicyclist. Initial information stated that he may have had the sun in his eyes.
 
CHP says that they reopened the intersection for normal traffic after they shut it down during the investigation. There were no charges filed.
