71-Year-Old Clovis Man Killed in Head-On Collision near Monroe Avenue
FRESNO, CA (September 1, 2018) – One person was killed and four others were injured after a head-on car accident on Shaw Avenue, late Saturday evening. The deceased victim’s identity was not immediately released to the public, pending notification of next of kin.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision happened at approximately 10:00 PM, just west of Monroe Avenue.
A 2005 Chevrolet was traveling westbound on Shaw Avenue, at around 55 mph. For unknown reasons, it drifted into the opposite lane and hit an eastbound 2015 GMC head-on. The Chevy overturned, trapping the driver inside.
The Chevy driver sustained life-threatening injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders. He was only identified as a 71-year-old Clovis man. The driver of the GMC, 41-year-old Carina Carillo Monroy of Woodland, was also pinned inside of her vehicle and suffered multiple fractures. With her, was 40-year-old Jose Hernandez and two other elderly passengers, both in their 70s. All were taken to the Community Regional Medical Center with major injuries. There is no update on their current medical condition.
Alcohol and drugs are not suspected to have been contibuting factors in the accident, and no further details have been disclosed at this time.
