1 Killed Head-On Crash near Hamilton Nord Cana Highway

 
CHICO, CA (March 24, 2020) – A head-on crash on Highway 99 north of Chico resulted in one fatality at around 12:00 p.m. on March 14.
 
The accident, only nine miles north of Chico, caused both directions of the highway to shut down while crews and emergency response personnel attended to the scene.
 
News Now reporter Kristian Lopez conversed with a CHP official over the sequence of events that led to the fatal collision.
 
Apparently, a vehicle southbound on Highway 99 overcorrected after straying from its lane.
 
It then drove into the northbound lane, striking another car head-on.

The Accident Aftermath

 
California Highway Patrol confirmed one death, while two others involved were taken to the hospital with major injuries.
The northbound and southbound lanes on Highway 99 near Hamilton Nord Cana Highway closed for the time being. They have since reopened.
Officials noted that drugs and alcohol did not appear to be a factor in the accident on Highway 99.
