3-Year-Old Boy Among 3 Killed in Halloween DUI Crash in Long Beach
LONG BEACH, CA (October 31, 2019) – A 3-year-old boy has died along with his parents following a DUI crash Halloween night in Long Beach, authorities said.
The fatal crash happened just before 10:00 p.m. near Los Cerritos Park on Country Club Drive.
Police said a family of three, which was trick-or-treating at the time, had been run down on a sidewalk by a 2002 Toyota Sequoia.
Paramedics rushed all three victims to hospitals for treatment. The boy succumbed to his injuries on Saturday morning.
A GoFundMe page identified the young victim as Omar Awaida. His parents were Raihan Awaida and Joseph Awaida.
The driver of the SUV, 20-year-old Carlo Navarro of Long Beach, was arrested at the scene. He was later booked on suspicion of DUI and gross vehicular manslaughter, authorities said.
Investigation of this crash is ongoing.
