Hit-and-Run Driver Struck and Injured Officer in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS, NV (May 9, 2019) – A motorcycle officer sustained injuries in a hit-and-run crash in Las Vegas Wednesday morning. The incident occurred near Jackson Avenue and C Street around 5:49 a.m.

According to Metro Police Lt. Jason Johansson, the officer stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation. However, the driver of the vehicle shifted the car in reverse, intentionally struck the officer and the police motorcycle, and then fled the area. Paramedics took the officer to the hospital with minor injuries.

Meanwhile, the Las Vegas police said the detectives have located the suspect’s vehicle later in the day but were still looking for the driver.

The crash prompted the closure of Jackson Avenue between C and D streets for several hours during the investigation.

Doing traffic stops is an important part of a law enforcement officer’s duty to serve and protect the community. Sometimes, it can be a stressful situation for both the driver and the officer. However, through good communication and cooperation, a traffic stop can be a positive experience for everyone. It is important to remain calm when an officer is attempting to pull you over. Find the nearest and safest area to pull over and park your car. Stay in the vehicle until further instructions are received from the officer.
