Man Dove in Front of Amtrak Train and Fatally Struck along Surfrider Way and North Cleveland Street
OCEANSIDE, CA (April 24, 2018) – A man was fatally struck by an Amtrak train along Surfrider Way, on Tuesday evening.
The unidentified man was hit by Amtrak Train 591 at around 7:50 PM in the area of Surfrider Way and North Cleveland Street. The train was traveling northbound at about 35 mph when the man ran toward the tracks and dove in front of the train, according to Deputy Jason Burk of the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.
Police officials and emergency personnel arrived at the scene and pronounced the man dead at the scene.
According to Metrolink, Train 608 was headed south to Oceanside was canceled in San Clemente. An Orange County Transit Authority bus was used to take the 15 people aboard to their destination.
No further details about this incident were immediately released by authorities.
