Nicholas James Hernandez Dies in E Broadway Boulevard Crash in Tucson

Tucson, AZ (August 1, 2021) – Friday night, a 32-year-old Nicholas James Hernandez died after being struck by a vehicle on E. Broadway Boulevard.

The fatal crash in Tucson happened at around 9 p.m. on July 30. 

Tucson Police said Hernandez had allegedly shoplifted from a business northeast of Broadway and Wilmot. He fled from the business heading southbound into the roadway when a silver 2003 Nissan Sentra struck him that was traveling westbound on Broadway.

EMS took Hernandez to St. Joseph’s Hospital with life-threatening injuries where he later died.

Meanwhile, the Nissan driver stopped and cooperated with the investigation. Police said the driver showed no signs of impairment at the time of the crash.

Detectives noted that Hernandez ran into the roadway approximately 75 feet east of a crosswalk. Moreover, they suspect midblock crossing by Hernandez appears to be the major contributing factor.

Further investigation is ongoing.
