Nancy Arzate Fatally Struck by Vehicle on Interstate 15 [Temecula, CA]

Temecula, CA (September 17, 2024) – 33-year-old Nancy Arzate of Perris was killed in a vehicle collision on Interstate 15 Saturday.

It was before 10 p.m. when the deadly crash happened at Temecula Parkway.

Troopers said Arzate was driving a 2011 Toyota Camry when she lost control and struck a roadside object. Her sedan then turned sideways in lanes.

Arzate got out of her vehicle and stood next to it.

A person driving toward Arzate’s direction was able to swerve to avoid hitting her and the stationary Toyota.

 However, Mason Michael Joachim, 26, of Carlsbad, driving at roughly 70 mph in his 2003 Ford Edge slammed into Arzate and her car, and fled the scene on foot right after the collision.

Motorists stopped and attempted to render aid to the injured woman until the paramedics arrived, but they declared Nancy Arzate dead at the scene.

CHP officers later located Joachim and arrested without incident.

He was treated for minor injuries at Inland Valley Medical Center in Wildomar and was later booked into the Byrd Detention Center in Murrieta on suspicion of second-degree murder, driving under the influence resulting in great bodily injury, hit-and-run causing death and driving on a suspended license.

Joachim is being held in lieu of $1 million bail.
