Othello, WA (April 21, 2025) – 44-year-old Nancy Cortes, and her passenger, 47-year-old Aquilino Cortes were hurt in a disastrous hit-and-run on SR 17.

According to authorities, the frightening crash happened at around 8:26 p.m. on State Route 17 near milepost 31.

Reports say that a head-on collision on the evening of April 19 injured two people.

Authorities say that a 19-year-old Demetrio D. Robles from Moses Lake drove a black 2017 BMW northbound, crossed the center line, and crashed into a southbound 2010 Mazda 3. Both vehicles veered off the road and down an embankment.

Robles fled the scene on foot but was later apprehended. Authorities confirmed he was uninjured. The Mazda’s driver, Nancy, and her passenger, strong>Aquilino A. Cortes, both of Othello, sustained injuries and were transported to Kadlec Regional Medical Center. Their current conditions remain undisclosed.

Robles now faces multiple felony charges, including hit-and-run, driving with a suspended license, and violating an ignition interlock requirement. Investigators found no indication of drug or alcohol involvement. Washington State Patrol seized both vehicles as evidence, and the investigation continues.
