Myretta Gowdy Dies in Head-On Collision on Interstate 40 [Amarillo, TX]

Amarillo, TX (March 30, 2023) – On Wednesday, Myretta Gowdy, 72, sustained fatal injuries following a head-on collision on Interstate 40.

The crash happened around 9:25 a.m. in the area of Pullman Road.

Investigating officers said a white SUV was driving the wrong way on the eastbound freeway and struck a pickup truck that flipped over. Afterward, the pickup truck was pushed into a semi-truck.

The SUV driver, Gowdy, died at the scene.

Moreover, the paramedics rushed the drivers of the two other cars to a hospital in stable condition.

The Amarillo Police Traffic Investigation Unit is investigating the I-40 fatal crash.
