14 Hospitalized after Big Rig Plows through Multiple Vehicles near River Street

 
SANTA CRUZ, CA (November 13, 2018) – More than a dozen people were injured Tuesday morning following a multi-vehicle crash on Highway 1.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened shortly before 10:00 AM near River Street. Preliminary investigation suggests that a big rig had brake failure when it plowed into stopped traffic, hitting at least twenty vehicles.
 
Fourteen people suffered minor to critical injuries and were transported to hospitals for treatment. Further updates on their current medical conditions were not immediately provided. Meanwhile, the unidentified big rig driver was also hospitalized with minor injuries.
 
Alcohol and drugs were ruled out as possible contributing factors in the collision, which remains under investigation at this time. Anyone who may have witnessed the incident is encouraged to contact the authorities as soon as possible. Additional information will be released once it becomes available.
