Rider Airlifted in Afternoon DUI Crash in Olympic Valley, Major Injuries Sustained
OLYMPIC VALLEY, CA (June 29, 2019) – A motorcyclist was seriously injured Saturday afternoon following a suspected DUI crash on Highway 89 at Alpine Meadows Road.
The collision happened around 2:52 p.m., on Highway 89. Dispatchers arrived just south of Alpine Meadows Road.
According to reports, a motorcycle was traveling north on the highway when it crossed into the southbound lane. There, it drifted into oncoming traffic and eventually struck a Toyota Prius.
The rider suffered major injuries as a result of the impact. He was airlifted to a hospital in an unknown condition.
Meanwhile, the Prius driver remained unharmed.
The crash blocked the highway in both directions. Traffic cams at the intersection of Alpine Meadows Road and Highway 89 showed a long line of cars waiting on the road.
Around 4:30 p.m., all lanes were reopened.
Authorities believe alcohol was a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.
It is important to make the conscious choice not to drink and drive. Alcohol can decrease the ability for you to comprehend situations on the road and to coordinate your own vehicle. There is always a better option. Keep the roadways safe by only driving when alert and sober.
