Fatal Hit-and-Run Motorcycle Accident near West Flamingo Road
LAS VEGAS, NV (July 8, 2019) – One unidentified motorcyclist was killed Saturday in a hit-and-run crash on South Decatur Boulevard, near West Flamingo Road.
According to police officers, a female driver of a white Nissan Altima blew through a red light while heading north on South Decatur Boulevard. Meanwhile, a westbound motorcyclist traveling along West Flamingo Road reportedly entered the intersection at the same time the woman ran the red light.
The motorcycle and Nissan collided, sending the Nissan to the opposing lanes and striking six stopped cars.
Unfortunately, the woman fled the scene before police officers arrived. Not long after, paramedics arrived and transported the 59-year-old Las Vegas man to University Medical Center where he died.
No other drivers or passengers suffered any injuries in the 8:30 p.m. crash, say police.
Yet, it’s unclear at this point whether speed or impairment played a role in the accident. Authorities are, however, seeking the whereabouts of the hit-and-run driver and asking witnesses to contact them immediately.
The surrounding area was closed off for a brief time while crews worked to clear the wreckage. However, the roadway has since reopened to traffic.
