Rider Dead in Reno Motorcycle Accident
RENO, NV (June 20, 2019) – An unidentified motorcyclist died Wednesday afternoon after a crash at South McCarran Boulevard and Rio Poco Road.
According to the Reno Police Department, the fatal event befell around 5:30 p.m.
Investigators say the northbound motorcyclist was attempting a left-hand turn from Rio Poco Road onto South McCarran Boulevard during a flashing yellow turn arrow.
Meanwhile, a pickup truck traveling in the opposite direction drove through the intersection on a green light and struck the 72-year-old rider. According to authorities, the impact consequently ejected the man from the bike.
REMSA arrived shortly after and transported the Reno rider to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
Meanwhile, the truck driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with police questioning.
Detectives believe neither alcohol nor speed played a factor in the crash. However, an investigation concerning this incident remains ongoing at this time.
The surrounding area was closed off for a brief time while crews worked to clear the wreckage. However, the roadway has since reopened.
With deepest sympathies, we would like to send our thoughts of courage and strength to the bereaved family and friends of the victim during this tragic time.
