Five Hospitalized after Los Angeles Car Accident

LOS ANGELES, CA (November 26, 2018) – A mother and her two children were injured after a car crash on Thursday, November 22.

According to LAPD Detective Moses Castillo, the mom and her 2-year-old child were hit by the car, while her 4-year-old child was struck by flying debris after the accident occurred at about 4:45 p.m. near the intersection of Gage Avenue and Main Street.

The collision happened shortly after two vehicles crashed in the intersection, one a Honda sedan that was moving west and the other an SUV traveling east, Sgt. Christian Warner said.

One of the vehicles landed on the sidewalk and struck the family members, but it was not immediately determined which car. The mother and children were at the southeast corner of Gage Avenue during the crash, the sergeant said, but he was not yet known if they were in a crosswalk or on the sidewalk.

Warner said that both the mother and two children were rushed to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, where they were listed in stable condition.

The two drivers involved were also taken to area hospitals, Castillo stated.

The victims’ injuries were not considered to be life-threatening, according to Warner.

Video from the scene displayed two vehicles sidelined at the intersection, with the sedan showing sustained damage to its front-end and windshield.

Authorities were determining whether the drivers were driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, but intoxication was not believed to have played a role in the incident, Warner said.

Detectives were also investigating whether one of the cars ran a red light.

Serious accidents can happen anywhere and to anyone. One small mistake when driving can lead to disastrous results. When we practice safety by using our seat belts, obeying the speed limit and paying attention to the road, we can avoid tragic consequences.
