75-Year-Old Woman Fatally Struck while Crossing near Elizabeth Avenue
MONTEREY PARK, CA (May 2, 2018) – A pedestrian collision on Garvey Avenue claimed the life of a 75-year-old woman, late Wednesday night.
According to the Monterey Park Police, they received reports about a pedestrian collision at about 9:58 PM in the 900 block of East Garvey Avenue. The woman was crossing on Garvey, just west of Elizabeth Avenue, when an eastbound vehicle struck her. The 69-year-old male driver stopped at the scene and cooperated with authorities, despite a language barrier.
The elderly pedestrian was rushed to Los Angeles County USC Medical Center, where she later succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead. Her identity was still not released by the coroner’s office.
Garvey Avenue, between New and Orange avenues, was closed to conduct an investigation and to clean up the scene. Affected areas were later reopened at around 5:30 AM the following day. Authorities continue to investigate, and Monterey Park Police encourage witnesses with additional information to contact them by calling (626) 307-1200.
