Monica Garcia Struck and Killed on Pedestrian Accident on Highway 74 in East Hemet

 
Hemet, CA (September 11, 2020) – On Wednesday, 56-year-old Monica Garcia was struck and killed in a pedestrian accident on Highway 74 in East Hemet.
 
The California Highway Patrol said the fatal accident happened about 8:10 p.m. on the westbound side of the four-lane corridor, west of Fourth Street.
 
Officer Matt Napier said the female Hemet resident resided nearby. Apparently, she was walking to a convenience store when the accident happened.
 
“She ran across the highway in an area lacking street lights,” Napier said. “There was no crosswalk. The driver of a Toyota Tundra did not see her in time, and the victim was hit in the roadway.”
 
The CHP spokesman said the driver immediately stopped and called 911.
 
Riverside County Fire Department paramedics were at the location within a few minutes. They pronounced Ms. Garcia dead at the scene.
 
Meanwhile, Napier also said there were multiple witnesses who saw the impact and spoke to officers.
 
Napier added, “The woman driving the pickup was not injured, and she was not under the influence.”
